Southern Maine District Event
On March 1st and 2nd, Chop Shop 166, competed at the Southern Maine District Event in Portland. Over the 2-day event Chop Shop competed in over a dozen difficult matches ultimately ending up as event “Finalists” after losing in the finals.
“Our drive team, which piloted our robot ‘Riptide', had some tough matches throughout qualifications but fought their way back,” said Tim, Co-Captain of Chop Shop 166. “With the hard work of our pit crew and strategy team, they led Riptide and their fifth seed alliance partners all the way to the finals.”
With the help of our alliance partners Team 58, The Riot Crew and Team 6153 Blue Crew we were able to make it to the finals.
“This weekend was an emotional rollercoaster,” said Matthew Gage, Lead Mentor of Chop Shop 166. “It was exciting to see the team work through a lot of different issues to end the weekend on a high note.,"
Along with finishing as Finalists the team was awarded the “Engineering Inspiration” award. The Engineering Inspiration award “Celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community.” This award is earned by completing interviews and answering questions from judges in the pits about the team’s outreach efforts and the robot design process.
“I am incredibly proud of the hard work of our entire team.” said Shane, Co-Captain of Chop Shop 166 “It’s thanks to all of our members’ efforts in running our events that we were awarded the Engineering Inspiration award. I could not be more proud of the whole team.”
