Design

The Design team is responsible for creating the drawings that will be used to build the robot. They will use both the Professional-Engineering (Pro-E) software package and hand drawn sketches to create these drawings.

A couple students working on design the chassis with ProE.

To start the build season, they often decide on a concept of operations. This is basically what the robot will do; for instance, the designers might decide that the robot should be able to move over an obstacle but not manuever through a different obstacle.

Students planning out our next moves.

After the concept of operations is decided, the Chop Shop spent numerous hours prototyping and testing various components of the robot. The information gathered from such testing allows the team to better design the robot's specific components. Such designs are then passed on to the mechanical and electrical subteams for construction.

A few student are demonstrating how a chassis might move over the bump. Students prototyping.

Design team is great for people who like to plan and brainstorm how the robot might work. Spatial thinkers and creative minds are essential to this subteam.
